Micro-flute corrugated, sometimes referred
to as micro-fluted corrugated, mini
corrugated flutes, or mini-fluted, is a special grade of
the familiar corrugated "sandwich". Corrugated packages
come in a large number of sizes and strengths. A corrugated container
for large and bulky items will have thick sidewalls made from heavy,
thick weights of corrugated paper, and some have multiple layers
of corrugated where the product is especially dense, heavy or hard
to contain. We do not manufacture
or sell raw cardboard or corrugated sheets.
A corrugated carton intended to solve a different product packaging problem, that of both product protection and point of purchase merchandising, is usually lighter, thinner and made from paper grades more amenable to high quality graphics. Bulk food products,
moderate-size hard goods, and hand-held appliances for kitchen, shop, and bath, especially those sold
through high volume discount and club stores, can take advantage of a recently developed product packaging design incorporating a small flute, usually referred to as micro-fluted or micro-fluted corrugated.
Trademarked FoldCorr™ by Crown Paper Box;
these kinds of materials provide the strength and stack ability of a corrugated package with the high quality graphics more typical of folding
cartons. The combination provides product protection during distribution and then helps move it self off the shelf with eye-catching graphics and easy to read application and use instructions on the exterior.
The most commonly used corrugated boxes use what is called C-Flute and it is typically 0.165" in
thickness. Folding cartons are seldom made from paperboard more than .024" in
thickness. The various grades of micro-flute corrugated range from E-flute's robust .072" thickness down to the very highly printable N-flute at 0.030" thickness. By making smaller flutes, and packing more of them into each running inch of side wall,
product boxes manufactured from micro-flute materials stack well, protect well, and merchandise
well. The heightened merchandising impact of micro-flute product packaging is a result of applying the eye popping realism only afforded
by the fine screens reproductions of offset lithography.
Micro-flute and mini-flute corrugated boxes occupy the area between traditional brown corrugated packaging and the paperboard folding cartons, drawing from the best features of both. Product
packaging problems are solved in a unique new and exciting way with the strength, protection and graphic appeal of custom printed packages made with
FoldCorr™.
