White Top, sometimes called mottle white or mottled white, is a multi-ply paper where one or more of the top layers consists of fibers that have been bleached to a bright white. The lower layer(s) can be some other less costly material to provide the strength and bulk needed in the box, carton, display, or other packaging component. There is a tendency for the color of the underlying stock to "mottle" the surface color, hence the name. We do not manufacture or sell raw white top material.

This material can solve a product package design challenge that demands high printability, good package performance, and does not require the both-sides-white aesthetics of Solid Bleached materials.

White Top is sometimes used as the printed layer in making the corrugated "sandwich" seen is both mini-flute and heavy weight containers where the package and the message it carries are integral to the marketing and merchandising of a product.

Originally produced from new (virgin) fibers, more and more white top is, today being produced from recycled fibers.

As in other printable surfaces, a clay coating is usually applied during paper manufacture to smooth and level the surface.
